Last weekend was packed with activity in the Lagos biking community as a whole lot of events were lined up for saturday the 19th of august. Two of the biggest were the Female Bikers Initiative (aka FBI), cervical cancer awareness ride at noon and BAD Gang's Launch and anniversary party at 2pm.
Being Bikers of Lagos, we had to be at both to support our own. Today I'd be reporting on the Cancer awareness ride, and we can discuss party later. LOL!
12 noon of saturday the 19th did arrive quickly, by which time I was already up and about trying to tie up loose ends from Friday's unfinished business. At this time, bikers (Male and Female alike) from across the nation and as far as Benin republic and Togo were already gathered at the e-centre yaba to share fliers and create awareness. This continued for about 40 minutes and the ride ensued through yaba all the way to one of the female hostels of the university of Lagos (Kofo Hall).
At this point a crowd had gathered outside the hall to see what these group of bikers had to say. With a few shy students peeping through the windows. The ladies were duely addresssed and educated on the importance of getting screened and doing so early by Dr. Femi Olaleye of Optimal Cancer Care in Surulere. During this period, personal care products and free screening coupons were being handed out to participants.
All in all, it was a good ride! A meaningful ride!! Hopefully a few lives have been saved by this kind gesture!!!
With all forms of cancer, early detection is key. If you're female and your reading this, pls get screened and vaccinated. A stitch in time they say, saves nine...
