So after my last run to Niger state from Lagos (read about that here), I decided to do an evaluation of my ride and see how I can improve on it.
One method of road evaluation kept coming to mind, something I had read a long time ago. Something I executed on this ride and it is the SIPDE road evaluation strategy.
The motorcycle SIPDE strategy consist of following 5 basic steps:
Step 1: Scan – Constantly scan the road ahead for hazards.
Step 2: Identify – Identify potential hazards quickly.
Step 3: Predict -- Predict what may happen with the potential hazard.
Step 4: Decide – Decide your best course of action to avoid hazard.
Step 5: Execute – Execute your plan to avoid hazard
Application of these five simple steps on any ride limits surprises. Thus bringing the possibility of incidents and accidents happening, to a very low margin.
I encourage all riders to imbibe and implement these steps on all rides in order to predict and avoid accidents/incidents.
Ride Safe guys...
